GOP Lead Democrats in Generic Congressional Ballot Average; But Dems Gain Ground

Republicans continue to lead Democrats in our Generic Congressional Ballot Average, 44.0%-41.7%. The average includes the last 40 days of Generic Congressional Ballot Polls.

The 2.3% lead is down from what it was a few weeks ago. In recent weeks, the trend has been moving in the direction of the Democrats. But anything in positive territory is great for the GOP. Traditionally, Democrats lead the Generic Congressional Ballot by a few points. In the Gallup Model, Democrats need to be at 48% or better to retain control of the House in Midterm Elections. Democrats are currently at 45% in the Gallup Poll.
