Here is video of a confrontation between students from Live Oak High School in Morgan Hill, California waving an American flag from their pickup and Latino students marching from the school, shouting "We want respect", in the wake of the controversy stemming from Cinco de Mayo. Five students were ordered home after wearing "American Flag" t-shirts on the May 5 celebration.
In this video, students waving American flags pull up alongside the Latino marchers. Soon after, one of the marchers goes over and knocks the American flag to the ground. The truck soon stops and some of the students in the truck get out to retrieve the American Flag. Police intervene and keep it from becoming any more than a shouting match.
Racial tensions are high on the campus of Live Oak High School in Morgan Hill a day after five students were sent home for wearing clothing with American flags to school on Cinco de Mayo.
Several dozen Latino students walked out of class Thursday. Shouting "We Want Respect", the students marched to a nearby park where they held a rally.
Along the way, KRON 4's Rob Fladeboe witnessed a dispute with a group of students waving an American flag out the window of a pickup truck. One of the marchers grabbed the flag and hurled it to the ground. What followed was an angry confrontation in which both groups of students shouted obscentities at each other.
