Sen. Lindsey Graham Says Borders Must be Secured; Says Immigration Reform Can be Done by 2012 - Video 4/27/10
Here is video of GOP Sen. Lindsey Graham in a hearing on Capitol Hill saying that "Comprehensive Immigration Reform" can be passed by 2012 "if we're smart." He was talking to Homeland Security Sec. Janet Napolitano.
Graham criticized Arizona's new Anti-Illegal Immigration law as "unconstitutional" but "well-meaning," and the result of inaction by the Congress on the issue.
"It is impossible for me and any other serious Democrat to get this body to move forward until we prove to the American people we can secure our borders. And quite frankly, Madam Secretary, we've got a long way to go. But once we get there, comprehensive reform should come up - will come up - and I believe we can do it by 2012 if we're smart and we address the big elephant in the room, and that is that our borders are broken and there's a war going on that's going to effect the future of this issue until we get that solved."
"Me and any other serious Democrat?" That's an odd way to put it since Graham is not a Democrat. But his positions often mirror those of Democrats more than a genuine Republican. Immigration and Cap and Tax are good examples.
