President Obama Urges House Democrats to Fall on their Swords for Health Care; Says Bill "Won't Pull the Plug on Granny" - Video 3/20/10
Here is complete video of the impassioned remarks President Obama made today on Capitol Hill before the Democratic Caucus in support of passing the Senate Health Care Bill in the House of Representatives tomorrow.
Obama, with the Democrats cloistered inside the Capitol building, rallied the troops and essentially urged them to be willing to fall on their swords and vote "Yes" on the Senate Bill. He quoted President Abraham Lincoln, who said, "I am not bound to win, but I am bound to be true." He proceeded to build his entire speech off of this quote.
Obama at one moment said he thought it was the best thing politcally to vote for the bill, but a few minutes later told the lawmakers he did not know how the politics would play out in their districts. But he returned to his "the time is now" to make history push.
At one point, Obama also raised the specter of death panels by saying passage of the bill will not mean "pulling the plug on granny."
