GOP's Eric Cantor Says Office Shot at this Week; Calls Out Dem Leaders for "Suggesting Incidents be Used as a Political Weapon" - Video 3/25/10
Here is video of GOP Minority Whip Rep. Eric Cantor calling out Democrat Leaders today, saying it is "reckless to use these incidents as media vehicles for political gain." Cantor was referring to repeated media appearances by Democrats this week about threats and reported incidents of violence directed at them for passing ObamaCare.
Cantor told the media that his campaign office in Richmond was shot at this week, and that he has received threats because of his positions on issues over the years as a member of Congress, and because of his Jewish faith. However, unlike the Democrats this week, Cantor said he would not release emails and other details of the threats because he believes it is inappropriate to do so - only serving to "fan the flames." Cantor condemned any acts of violence toward any member of Congress, and said no one in Congress has ever approved of or encouraged such acts.
Cantor particularly singled out Democrats Chris Van Hollen and DNC Chairman Tim Kaine for "dangerously fanning the flames by suggesting that these incidents be used as a political weapon."
Cantor went on to say:
"Security threats against members of Congress is not a partisan issue, and they should never be treated that way. To use such threats as political weapons is reprehensible. I'm not naive enough to think that letters, statements, or press releases will prevent anyone disturbed enough to commit violence from acting. But I do know that such letters, statements and press releases can very easily fan the flames. By ratcheting up the rhetoric, some will only inflame these situations to dangerous levels. Enough is enough! It has to stop!"
