GOP's Jeb Hensarling Destroys MSNBC's Chris Matthews on Obama Deficit Spending - Video 2/1/10

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

Here is video of GOP Texas Rep. Jeb Hensarling destroying MSNBC's Chris Matthews on the discussion of President Obama's deficit spending and his proposed Federal Budget. It so frustrated Chris Matthews that he resorted to an old Democrat trick, as he tried to corner Hensarling into saying he wanted to "cut" Social Security Benefits in order to balance the budget.

Matthews kept putting words in Hensarling's mouth, trying to take Hensarling's conviction that we must "reform" the way we plan to deal with Social Security for those now 55 and under, and assert that "reform" equals "cut."

On the merits of Obama's deficit spending, Matthews tried to absolve Obama of responsibility by saying he "inherited" a huge deficit from President Bush. But Hensarling would not let him do so, reminding Matthews that only Congress can spend money, and the deficit he inherited was from a Democrat Congress!

He also said that the deficit grew from 1.2 trillion to 1.6 trillion. That is a 400 billion increase this year alone under Obama.

if the country is so "Conservative" why are politicians afraid to answer that question clearly. Yes, I am willing to tell future generations that they have to do a better job planning for their futures and not depend on government entitlement programs.

That being said Chris Mathews is a moron; constantly ignore the fact that Jeb wasn't saying that and attributing it to him anyways. Journalism is dead @ MSNBC

2 points: 1) the hippies are going to the grave soaking the system in their selfish, hedonistic ways of entitlement for being so special to the planet. Money, money, money for me, me, me is the hippie way into perpetual serfdom for their kids... surfs up.
2) if you met Obama in a bar and lied to the extent that he lies to public (for example, saying that he'll buy the house a round of drinks -- but doesn't) he'd get the bum's rush out the door. Hopefully, the public will catch on and have the same sense as people in bars.

Wow. This is the only site that isn't saying Chris smacked down Jeb. Nice spin but he was owned by Chris. It was HILLflipinLARIOUS! So is this site.

Chris Matthews had no response at all to Hensarling saying that the deficit inherited by Obama came from a Democrat Congress. That is not the definition of "owning" someone. Only the most jaded Obama supporters would think it is.

In reforming entitlement spending (in this case medicare) the goal is to change from a failing system to a sustainable system. It's not moving backwards to stop doing what isn't working in favor of doing something that will work. Moving from current failing medicare to the system Congress is currently using is a step toward solution. How is "losing" medicare benefits bad when you GAIN better benefits as a result?

The point is Hensarling purposefully lied and exaggerated his numbers. People like him ARE the problem. It's one thing to spin an argument. It's quite another to outright mislead knowing people won't check your facts. This will stop working for both parties in this day and age:
