Fred Thompson to Begin Hosting Daily Radio Show on March 2

Former Sen. Fred Thompson will begin hosting a two-hour a day talk radio show on March 2, taking the slot held by Bill O'Reilly right now. "The Radio Factor" will go off the air on February 27:

Actor and former presidential candidate Fred Thompson is getting his own radio show.

Westwood One said Monday that "The Fred Thompson Show" will debut March 2, replacing "The Radio Factor With Bill O'Reilly," which ends its six-year run February 27. O'Reilly announced his decision to step down from the show this month, saying the workload for his radio and TV duties had become too much.

In his show, Thompson will share his conservative views on politics, topical issues and pop culture stories as well as conduct guest interviews and take listener calls. The two-hour show, broadcast from the Westwood One studios in Washington, will air live from noon-2 p.m. weekdays.

Thompson, also a former U.S. senator, most recently co-starred in NBC's "Law & Order" and HBO's "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee" before taking time off from acting to seek the Republican nomination for president last year.

Fred will be opposite Rush Limbaugh, but it will be great to have a way of hearing Fred's take on current events on a day-by-day basis. I supported Thompson's run for the Presidency in 2008, and will look forward to having him on the national stage to share his Federalist, Conservative views.

Northern Ireland Environment Minister Calls Man-Made Climate Change Hysteria a "Con"

The Environment Minister of Northern Ireland, Sammy Wilson, is not afraid to stand up and say 'the Emperor has no clothes.' Wilson has gone on record saying the current hysteria over man-made climate change is a "con" that is keeping many third-world developing nations from addressing real problems such as the need for clean water:

Spending billions on trying to reduce carbon emissions is one giant con that is depriving third world countries of vital funds to tackle famine, HIV and other diseases, Sammy Wilson said.

The DUP minister has been heavily criticised by environmentalists for claiming that ongoing climatic shifts are down to nature and not mankind.

But while acknowledging his views on global warming may not be popular, the East Antrim MP said he was not prepared to be bullied by eco fundamentalists.

“I’ll not be stopped saying what I believe needs to be said about climate change,” he said.

"Most of the people who shout about climate change have not read one article about it

“I think in 20 years’ time we will look back at this whole climate change debate and ask ourselves how on earth were we ever conned into spending the billions of pounds which are going into this without any kind of rigorous examination of the background, the science, the implications of it all. Because there is now a degree of hysteria about it, fairly unformed hysteria I’ve got to say as well.

“I mean I get it in the Assembly all the time and most of the people who shout about climate change have not read one article about climate change, not read one book about climate change, if you asked them to explain how they believe there’s a connection between CO2 emission and the effects which they claim there’s going to be, if you ask them to explain the thought process or the modelling that is required and the assumptions behind that and how tenuous all the connections are, they wouldn’t have a clue.

“They simply get letters about it from all these lobby groups, it’s popular and therefore they go along with the flow — and that would be ok if there were no implications for it, but the implications are immense.”

He said while people in the western world were facing spiralling fuel bills as a result of efforts to cut CO2, the implications in poorer countries were graver.

“What are the problems that face us either locally and internationally. Are those not the things we should be concentrating on?” he asked.

“HIV, lack of clean water, which kills millions of people in third world countries, lack of education.

“A fraction of the money we are currently spending on climate change could actually eradicate those three problems alone, a fraction of it. . . . . . MORE

If only there were more courageous leaders like Sammy Wilson who were not afraid to point out just how insane the Global Warming cult has become across the world. As Barack Obama takes office and Democrats undoubtedly try to enact legislation that will impose hardships on the American people in the name of needing to halt "climate change," Republicans need to stand up and tell the truth about just how ridiculous the whole Global Warming movement is. We need some Sammy Wilsons here in the USA.

60% of U.S. Military "Pessimistic" or "Uncertain" About Obama as Commander-in-Chief

An Army Times poll shows that a full 60% of U.S. Military Personnel are either "pessimistic" or "uncertain" about Barack Obama becoming America's Commander-in-Chief:

When asked how they feel about President-elect Barack Obama as commander in chief, six out of 10 active-duty service members say they are uncertain or pessimistic, according to a Military Times survey.

In follow-up interviews, respondents expressed concerns about Obama’s lack of military service and experience leading men and women in uniform.

“Being that the Marine Corps can be sent anywhere in the world with the snap of his fingers, nobody has confidence in this guy as commander in chief,” said one lance corporal who asked not to be identified.

For eight years, members of the U.S. military have served under a Republican commander in chief who reflected their generally conservative views and led them to war in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Now, the troops face change not only at the very top of the chain of command, as Obama nears his Jan. 20 inauguration, but perhaps in mission, policy and values.

Underlying much of the uncertainty is Obama’s stated 16-month timetable for pulling combat troops out of Iraq, as well as his calls to end the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy to allow gays to serve openly in the military, according to survey responses and interviews.

“How are you going to safely pull combat troops out of Iraq?” said Air Force 1st Lt. Rachel Kleinpeter, an intelligence officer with the 100th Operations Support Squadron at RAF Mildenhall, England. “And if you’re pulling out combat troops, who are you leaving to help support what’s left? What happens if Iraq falls back into chaos? Are we going to be there in five years doing the same thing over again?”

When asked who has their best interests at heart — Obama or President George W. Bush — a higher percentage of respondents picked Bush, though Bush has lost ground over time. About half of the respondents said Bush has their best interests at heart this year, the same percentage as last year but a decline from 69 percent in 2004.

Nearly one-third of respondents — including eight out of 10 black service members — said they are optimistic about their incoming boss. . . . MORE

Blagojevich Appoints Successor to Obama Senate Seat - Video 12/30/08

Over the last couple of weeks, one of the key events was the decision of accused Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich to appoint a successor to Barack Obama's senate seat. This, despite the cloud hanging over the Governor for having allegedly tried to sell Obama's open seat to the higest bidder.

Blagojevich appointed former Illinois Attorney General Roland Burris at a news conference held December 30, 2008. Here is video of the announcement:

Happy New Year!

As we begin the year 2009, I want to wish you and your family a very Happy New Year!

2009 will bring the inauguration of a new President -- Barack Obama. He will represent a sea-change politically in Washington. His strength in the Congress with Democratic control will undoubtedly bring a host of legislative measures designed to enlarge the size of Government, and make even more people beholden to the Democratic Party.

I have taken a break from posting since December 10. I really did not plan to, but the busyness of the holiday season coupled with personal illness kept me away from posting.

With the beginning of the New Year, I am resuming my coverage of the major political news of the day. As always, Freedom's Lighthouse will seek to provide video of key news and political events, and commentary from a decidedly conservative perspective. I wish you and yours the best in 2009, and hope you will drop in here at Freedom's Lighthouse on a regular basis!
