Robert Gibbs Attacks Michael Steele: "How Much Did That Interview Cost?" - Video 12/22/09

Here is video of Robert Gibbs taking a shot at Michael Steele and the RNC after being asked about Steele's comments saying that the Democrats are "flipping the bird at the American people."

When asked for the Presidents take on Michael Steele's comments, Gibbs responded "how much did that interview cost, I wonder?" Gibbs went on to say that "there are millions of people that are watching their health care rates skyrocket, and instead of giving chippy interviews it might be good to actually be part of the negotiations and a solution to make health care reform a reality for the American people."

Gibbs forgot to mention that Obama was the first POTUS to invite the CBO director over to the oval office for a "chat".

That alone raised a few eyebrows about the CBO and whether they could maintain their objectivity.

Uh, Gibbs, whatever Steele received for that speech you can bet it wasn't anywhere near $1.4 MILLION 0bama received for his speech from the Nobel committee. ;)

Steele puts makes all Republicans suspect by taking speaking fees for doing the job he's being paid to do.

Face it, he's the heard of the RNC. Making speeches IS his job. Why should he be getting paid again?

It's a scandal which won't get fixed until it becomes more damaging than having to fire the head of the RNC for corruption.

And back to the original question. "Flipping the bird" ??? Really? Grown ups don't talk like that. Serious people who want to be trusted and lead the country don't talk like that.

Really. C'mon. He's not ready for prime time.

Steele shouldn't be taking private speaking fees. The RNC pays him to do that already.

Gibbs may have taken a cheap shot but Steele bent over and gave him a big target.

Gibbs isn't the story, this is the real story you won't cover.

According to a report in Tuesday's Washington Times, Steele -- who has sparked controversy within his party -- is personally profiting from speeches at colleges, trade fairs and other groups. He charges as much as $20,000 per speech, plus first class airfare and hotel accomodations.

$20,000 is nearly the poverty line for the annual income of an American family of four ($22,050).

"Mr. Steele, elected in January to the $223,500-a-year RNC post, is working with at least four outside agencies in Washington, New York, Boston and Nashville that book the speaking engagements," the Times reports. "He charges between $8,000 and $20,000 for an address."
