Rep. Dan Burton Says Court Martial of Navy SEALs is a "Miscarriage of Justice" - Video 12/4/09

Here is video of GOP Rep. Dan Burton saying it is an "outrage" and a "miscarriage of justice" that three Navy SEALs have been court-martialed for allegedly roughing up a captured terrorist leader.

Burton says we are "standing justice on its head" by going after these SEALs, when at the same time we are bending over backwards to give "Miranda Rights" to captured terrorists.

Burton says the Al-Qaeda terrorist manual tells operatives to allege abuse if captured, and he is skeptical about whether the SEALs are guilty or not.

Burton has written a letter to Defense Secretary Robert Gates asking him to put a stop to this court martial. If it turns out the SEALs are guilty of roughing the terrorist up, Burton says a "reprimand" would be much more in order than a "court martial."

One more nail in the Obama coffin of lies and stupidity. He is a greater danger to the Republic than all the terrorists in the world put together. Its impeachment time.

The SEALs ASKED for a court-martial, to prove their innocence. See, that's what you rightweingers seem to have such a tough time understanding:

You have a trial to determine guilt or innocence. You don't guess about it, you don't have it determined in a popularity poll, you don't have congressmen determine it, and you sure as hell don't have rightwingnut bloggers determine it.

Hey, Dick? It's not up to Eric Holder to make this decision. The Attorney General doesn't prosecute military cases in court martials.

Get a clue. Buy a vowel.

Larry,
The SEALs should not be having to defend themselves against these petty accusations. They chose to defend themselves against a Court-Martial because they refuse to plead guilty to the accusations against them and accept a blotched record.

It's a shame that they have to do this because a terrorist - whose manual tells him to claim abuse - has the military by the throat because of the hysterical politically-correct atmosphere created by liberals in America.

Larry,
We're not nuts. We are just part of the "flyover" part of America that admires and honors our men and women in uniform and choose to believe them over the terrorists. It's not in our DNA to blame America and Americans first. Somehow, a bloody lip on a terrorist does not seem sufficient for Navy SEALs to be facing a court martial.

Richard and Heidy,
I share your outrage. It is clear the policy of this administration - both in the Justice Department and in the White House - is to treat terrorists like "innocent until proven guilty" suspects who should be given Miranda rights and treated with kid gloves. At the same time, our military members have a bullseye on them if any terrorist captured claims to have not been given the rights the White House thinks they deserve.

It's an upside down world right now. But 2010 is coming, followed by 2012 and 2014, and the Democrats better not get too comfy in their places of power.

PC is everywhere even in the military. Just look at the excuses the latest American haters offered up for the terrorist that went on a shooting spree at Fort Hood. The military did nothing to weed that guy out because of his ethnic beliefs. Could you imagine an American soldier idealizing Hitler in WWII and then shooting 13 of his own soldiers? That guy would be dead and there would be no thoughts about whether the military is discriminating against the Germans. And now if soldiers punch a terrorist they are up for court martial. PC has twisted people's thinking. It is insidious and born of the luxury of not having to face reality. It places you squarely in fantasy land. People who face reality are not PC.

It's not political correctness, it's just typical bureaucratic ineptitude.

How in the hell do you tag Obama with this, when the court martials are being run by the DOD? Gates was Bush's SecDef, for gosh sakes.

Believe it or not, things DO happen in the U.S. government that aren't being directly controlled by the President.

And as for you "flyover people" trusting our military before trusting terrorists, you're not alone. But what does anybody know about this case, other than what rightwing blogs have printed? I don'tknow what the SEALs did, or didn't, do. Do you? That's the whole purpose of a trial. If there was absolutely no basis for the charges, it's doubtful that the military would be pushing the issue. And if there is absolutely no basis for the charges, the SEALs will be exonerated.

gates is now obamas secdef.busch would not have allowed this to happen

Larry S December 11, 2009 at 9:53 PM

Is that an "educated" guess from someone who can't tell the difference between Busch beer and President Bush?
