A Startling Contrast in Greeting Emperor of Japan: Dick Cheney's Handshake of Equals vs. Obama's "Wow Bow" - Photos

What a contrast to see the photo of former Vice-President Dick Cheney greeting the Emperor of Japan (Emperor Akihito) as compared to President Obama's low bow. The Los Angeles Times blog "Top of the Ticket" has a great write-up on it. They are calling Obama's bow the "Wow Bow."

What's the big deal? Our current President has manners and thinks of others. Our previous VP is an uncouth clod who thinks of himself (when he's not shooting lawyers in the face).

The amazing thing is that you can claim that Obama is such an egomaniac, and then turn it around 180 degrees and complain because he "humbles" himself before other world leaders.

this is embarassing. Makes me respect Dick Cheney more than I ever thought possible, and I was one of those dems who was protesting agn him and Bush.

If Obama as a private citizen wants to grovel in front of an emperor, fine.

But he is representing the US, and I sure as hell do not want my country to be grovelling in front of any country.

Obama is representing us - very poorly. It seems his message to the world is "I'm sorry I represent such uncouth rabble. Until I got elected, I totally understand why you hated America. But change has come to America. I'm in America but not of America."

It is America he is trying to "humble" in the eyes of the world.

Larry S November 14, 2009 11:55 PM

Maybe if we had far fewer "Ugly Americans" there would be far fewer reasons to humble ourselves.

Humility isn't weakness. And when in Rome....

Let's try getting over our yahoo Bush tendencies of the "Bring It On!" variety. It's unnecessary AND it has caused many throughout the world to hold America in less respect, not more.

What a contrast between Cheney and General Douglas McArthur and this useless waste of electoral votes in the WH now. How sad. How pathetic. As a head of state it is inappropriate to bow to another head of state. It has nothing to do with humility. One can be gracious without being obsequious. The Chinese used to call such an action kowtowing. The Arabs refer to such status as Dhimma. Whatever the intent it displays sheer naivete, subtle stupidity and total disregard for the sensibilities of 98% of the American people. This man is not presidential material. George Bush is beginning to look better and better every day, and this coming from a gay Democrat.

a bow is a standard greeting in japan. get over it and don't read so much into insignificant gestures.

Hey Freedom's lighthouse,

you guys are getting infested by Obot trolls, your link was seen on some america-loathing lefty blogs.

My advise, block these Obot trolls, its not worth the time aruging with them. Trust me, as a Hillary democrat, they infested all of Hillary supporting websites as well.

Keep up the great work, please block the Obot trolls. They can spew their nonsense elsewhere.

So the Mohammedan in Chief bows down and kowtows to Mecca too. And people are surprised, even shocked?
Now the Mohammedan in Chief is off to apologize to the Chinese for not ordering enough carry-out. B. Hussein Obama. mmmmmmm, mmmmmmm, mmmmmmm

Larry S November 15, 2009 11:46 AM

Hey, way to keep that racist element alive, John! Too bad you couldn't slide in a mean-spirited reference to laundry service, too!

Obama just seems to feel he has to go out of his way to bring down America to make the world like him better. His bowing signifies his entire Foreign Policy.

Our dear reader is becoming and embarrassment to himself.

Wow things to be kept in consideration. But before maintaining this kind of foreign policy its better he should take care of his back.

For those of you that think that Obama bowing to the Emperor of Japan is o.k. because "When in Rome,..." you don't have a clue.

The Emperor of Japan will bow to no person. Also, in Japan, it is not customary for foreigners to bow to Japanese and doing so is frowned upon by many.

After the fiasco bowing to the King of Saudi Arabia, he must have known. Maybe he is just so used to a subservient mind set. I don't think that is a good place to be when you are the leader of the most powerful nation on Earth.

obama's five second bow shows he is obviously weak and subservient.

unlike our last president...who knew how to be tough and strong and manly on the world stage...while going out for a little walk and holding hands with the saudi king...for about a half hour or so.

Bush holding hands with Crown Prince Abdullah of Saudi (not the Saudi King by the way) was absolutely sickening. Just think, if he did that before the election, Kerry might be President. Kerry would probably one up what Bush and Obama did by by giving Castro a wide open kiss on the mouth.

2012 Possible GOP Contenders: Power Rankings

Here is a list of possible GOP Contenders for the 2012 Republican Nomination for President. They are listed in “Power Ranked” order based on our subjective analysis of how strong the candidates would be should they decide to seek the nomination. The rankings are NOT based on how strong the candidates would be in winning in a General Election against President Obama. The rankings will be adjusted day to day as events and information warrant. Rankings do not indicate an endorsement or preference for a particular candidate. Candidates included are those who have either indicated they may run, or individuals for which there is great speculation they will run.
