President Obama Remarks on Fort Hood Mass Shooting After He Gives a "Shout-Out" to Audience Member - Video 11/5/09

Here is video of President Obama making remarks about the mass shooting at Fort Hood, Texas this afternoon. He made the remarks at an Interior Department event, and prior to commenting on Fort Hood, Obama spoke for about two minutes to the crowd at the event, giving a "shout out" and thank yous to people in the crowd. At the 2:15 mark of the video he begins to comment on the Fort Hood shooting.

Very tragic. I was going to comment on Obama's news release because I heard it on my way home and rolled my eyes when he said something (I didn't hear the shout outs in my truck).

But I will not. This is too terrible.

Brian November 5, 2009 at 5:00 PM

It is terrible beyond words.

Unknown November 5, 2009 at 5:09 PM

We were just attacked on our own soil by an Islamic Extremist in a US Army uniform. This should be the first thing he addressed. The other shite was just that.

Anonymous,  November 5, 2009 at 5:10 PM

I heard the presidents remarks live and could not believe how self centered he was.

Kaya Kelly November 5, 2009 at 5:11 PM

Incredibly sad for the families. Obama is classless. In contrast I am reminded of Reagan's Challenger memorial where he he said the stirring words, "They have escaped the surly bonds of earth to touch the hand of God".

Anonymous,  November 5, 2009 at 5:12 PM

unbelievable. He pushed his politics before addressing an attack on a military base on US soil???

Are you kidding me?????

Anonymous,  November 5, 2009 at 5:27 PM

What would you expect him do? The left and the right has it's nutcases. I remember this being brought up after September 11th and the amount of time it took Bush to leave a room to talk about the situation. What has happened today at Fort. Hood is terrible, and what you're trying to do is just as terrible as what Bush had to go through after 9/11. tisk tisk.

Anonymous,  November 5, 2009 at 5:38 PM

This is the welfare culture.

Lack of perspective.

Me me me me

Anonymous,  November 5, 2009 at 5:39 PM

I disagree. This is no where near the same thing as Bush not leaving the room within a certain period of time. This is the commander and CHIEF of the armed services deciding that it was more important to give a "shout out", then it was to address the families and soldiers who have just been attacked in their own homes. If you see it any differently, then you are the one who should be ashamed.

Jane November 5, 2009 at 6:02 PM

It was both shocking and sickening.

Anonymous,  November 5, 2009 at 6:08 PM

Obama's shout out was very telling, it shows us exactly where his priorities lie

Anonymous,  November 5, 2009 at 7:20 PM

This is what mary k hammer of FOX NEWS twittered..."Whose idea was it to have Obama do thank-yous & shout-outs *before* addressing shootings. Looked weird & bad. Not heads-up, Prez handlers." Unbelievable!! Rush Limbaugh described his character to a "T". Sad for our Country the day this man became our President...

Anonymous,  November 5, 2009 at 7:27 PM

He was ending the White House Tribal Nations Conference. He was already talking to those people and we just caught the tail end of it. It had nothing to do with the statement about Fort Hood.
Fort Hood happened while this was going on... People cease to amaze me.... And the Native American's were here long before most of us.... White People, took away their land, and put them on reservations. Our Government....

Brian November 5, 2009 at 7:31 PM

No. Actually, if you watch the video, he is introduced by Ken Salazar and begins his remarks by talking for 2:15 about various Native American matters, giving thank yous to his own cabinet members and others, and the "shout-out." Then he made the remarks about Fort Hood. He was not already speaking and "we just caught the tail end of it."

Anonymous,  November 5, 2009 at 7:35 PM

i think this is funny as hell i dont care if your ending a tribal meeting if your country gets attacked you address that before giving a shout out

Anonymous,  November 5, 2009 at 7:46 PM

I have no words... just pure pure disgust at this america-loathing fool!

This is the same pathetic loser who refused to place his hand on his heart for the national anthem, the same man(and I use that term loosely) who said "US military is raiding villages and killing civilians over there".

The man has a deep loathing of America and certainly the US military, what a disgusting POS this man is!

God bless those brave soldiers, may they rest in peace. And God Bless America.

Anonymous,  November 5, 2009 at 8:16 PM

I find him totally spineless and disgusting. "We are going to stay on this." HUH?? How about sending troops!!

You can hear in his voice he doesn't truly care; he may have been born in the USA, but I have never seen him as an American.

Anonymous,  November 5, 2009 at 8:59 PM

the reason obama didnt address this horrific event immediately was the same reason Bush didn't immediately react to 9/11. He didn't want to show weakness or panic about the tragedy and give the goddamned terrorists the satisfaction. I'm not defending obama on the whole, i just think that in this case he did what was expected of the commander in chief. If obama had broken down into tears like crybaby glenn beck he would have played right into the terrorists hands and made us all look like a bunch of pussies.

Paul November 5, 2009 at 9:01 PM

The video shows that he did the right thing.

Anonymous,  November 5, 2009 at 9:50 PM

I believe that Obama is happy about this incident. It furthers his Marxist agenda and empowers him to enact another executive order that tramples our Constitution. If you don't agree that is fine, we are all still Americans with freedom of speech! However, I hope that you KEEP paying attention to this unnatural citizen who has stolen the presidency. The truth always comes out eventually.

Anonymous,  November 5, 2009 at 10:01 PM

Some of you are idiots. This wasn't his news conference on the shootings. It was an address to a multi-cultural conference. He was a guest and he cut his remarks short to focus on the shooting. Classic FOX slant and misrepresentation! But why be confused with the facts!

Anonymous,  November 5, 2009 at 10:04 PM

Why does he keep looking down to check his notes? Isn't he the PRESIDENT? Shouldn't he KNOW what to say and do? Without the notes in front of him he would have been left smiling stupidly until he came up with one of his pathetic distractive jokes. This man is a disgrace to our union, our military, our history, and our future. I don't mean to be abusive, I am just being honest.

Anonymous,  November 5, 2009 at 10:16 PM

I'm sorry. Did we not see replay after replay of video after video of Bush in that classroom? I was so confused about that until the entire events were played out this last 9-11. The issue I had with this release by President Obama was it had to end up about him - like most all, IF not all, of his speeches.

Anonymous,  November 5, 2009 at 11:26 PM

I wonder how many resignations will be tendered from the officer corps in all five branches of the Armed forces tomorrow morning. This plainly shows that his agenda is his first and only concern and that the deaths of American servicemen who are cannon fodder under his feet are nothing but a nuisance in his bid for American domination.

WestWright,  November 6, 2009 at 4:06 AM

President GW Bush also made a public statement about the Ft Hood tragedy that was respectful, concise, heartfelt and NOT about himself. Compare and contrast with our current IIC, Infant in Chief. President Obama has better start doing the job he freely sought.

Anonymous,  November 6, 2009 at 7:52 AM

There are only 3 branchs of the arm services not 5 to start with.
The president doesn't know a post from a base.
The president says his thoughts/prayers are with the Gen and HIS solider, they are th eresident shoilders didn't he get the memo as Chef and Staff he is the head of all the soliders???
End of a speech or not a president does now say' give a shout out' to anyone anytime anywhere, but then he gave an ipod to a queen so what do we expect, class-less.

And GWB staied in a room of KIDS now grown adults that knew what was going on when he started talking, he didn't have to finish his speech to them. GWB didn't do what was to happen to kids, and filp their world upside down with 2 words. He did what he was doing and left explaining to people better trained.

Anonymous,  November 6, 2009 at 8:53 AM

I could not believe my ears when I heard President Obama thank his conference organizers and send a "Shout Out" to someone in the auddience, before addressing the tragic incident at Fort Hood. I also think he was too "business like" when he finally did! Shame on you Mr. President.

Anonymous,  November 6, 2009 at 11:12 AM

This blog spreads fear and hate. Thank goodness for logic and liberals.

Anonymous,  November 6, 2009 at 1:21 PM

It should NOT have taken him two minutes to actually address the Fort Hood shooting, its ridiculous. It isn't a popularity contest anymore, he is trying to be appealing to younger people still! He got his votes, he's in office, its time to do his job now and stop thinking hes a celebrity. It just blows my mind.

Anonymous,  November 6, 2009 at 1:42 PM

Watching the news about shooting, President
obama comes to address we the people of United
States of America. He thank people about the
healthcare bill which No one In America wants, no
new taxes. Then address about The Military shoulders
shot, who defend America and Freedom we the
people believe in.

Anonymous,  November 6, 2009 at 3:43 PM

He should have addressed the shootings immediately. I still cannot believe what I heard. This is such a blatant display of insensitivity. I am not an Obama fan, but I do try to give him the benefit of the doubt. This one is hard for me to wrap my brain around!

Anonymous,  November 6, 2009 at 4:28 PM

Let's not make this only about the un-American we call President. Shame on him and his advisors. Where was the Czar of Decency?? This is about the men and women who serve our country and protect our freedom. God Bless them. My sympathies go out to those who have lost loved ones - thoughts and prayers are with you. Our President and his cronies may not respect our troops, but most Americans do. Freedom-loving Americans had better pay close attention to this administration. One last thought . . . the President advised the nation not to rush to judgement on the Fort Hood killer. What about his rush to judgement when he declared that the police officer acted stupidly????? Where are his priorities??????????

Anonymous,  November 6, 2009 at 5:45 PM

The psuedo pres showed his true selfish self as usual. Thank GOD for our soldiers, first responders and the rest of the AMERICAN public who understand and love the military. If not for them we would NOT have the freedoms we do. We AMERICA lovers will keep the fallen and wounded and families in our thoughts and prayers and continue to support them. Psuedo pres can sit this one out.

Anonymous,  November 6, 2009 at 7:46 PM

Let's not forget that the person he congratulated for wining a Congressional Medal of Honor, did not win one. That is who is was giving his big "Shout out" to. So instead of being sympathetic, he gave a shout out to a man who did even get what he was being shout out -ed for.

Anonymous,  November 6, 2009 at 7:53 PM

This man is beyond belief...I could not belive what he started out talking about....at first I thought this must be wrong and a recording and he was going to speak live and then I realized he was live....and he had to talk about what they had done all day...
it is the beginning of the end for Barack Hussein Obama...he will be a one time president and we will recover...Ft. Hood will be remembered second only to 9/11...as the beginning of when the Muslim faction infiltrated our supposedly secure military base..
Barack Obama is evi..pure and simple and a true socialist.

Brian November 6, 2009 at 9:03 PM

That is correct. Obama gave a "shout out" to a man Obama himself gave the "Congressional Medal of Freedom," but instead said the man had received the "Congressional Medal of Honor."

Larry S November 6, 2009 at 9:15 PM

Hey, I have a novel idea! Instead of using this as yet another opportunity to beat up on your least favorite Preident of all time, how about we Americans just say a quiet little prayers for all the victims and their families? These trivial potshots demean the sacrifice and loss these poor people suffered.

Anonymous,  November 6, 2009 at 9:32 PM

I am not only shocked at the president's lack of compassion, but also at the lack of attention this received from the media. (Not really surprised, I guess) If you google this speech on "lamestream" networks, it starts out when Obama begins to speak about the tragedy. The shout-outs are completely left out, and he appears very concerned for all the world to see. How sad that this is what we have as our "commander-in-chief".

Anonymous,  November 6, 2009 at 11:21 PM

Most of you people are idiots!! It's disgusting to me that you'll look for any chance you get to try and bash Obama, even this deadly shooting. Obama wasn't addressing the media in general...he was addressing people at a function for the Interior Department. As such, all he was doing was thanking those who put together the event, which is customary. Not once did he say anything crass, out-of-place, or heartless about the shooting or the victims, and the fact that you people all want to use this for a personal attack says more about all of you than him. You should be ashamed!!

Stephanie,  November 7, 2009 at 12:36 AM

Obama is a total douche bag! He is classless, disrespectful & a total idiot!

Anonymous,  November 7, 2009 at 2:52 AM

He acted like he was up there to receive an Academy Award. He is the sorriest excuse for a president this country has ever had - followed closely by Jimmy Carter.

Anonymous,  November 7, 2009 at 8:12 AM

In response to the Anonymous entry of 11:21 pm . . . you call us idiots. Perhaps, we have compassion and common sense. President Obama should have walked to the podium and immediately informed the audience of his need to address this horrific tragedy at Fort Hood. NOTHING should have come before that. It was disrespectful to those who were killed for him to have shout-outs and an audience cheering while Americans listened with heavy hearts. (I, too, thought it was a prerecorded tape played in error by the media.)There is no excuse for what he did. His actions were reprehensible and to defend what he did is shameful. We pray for those who lost their lives and we pray for all of our young men and women who defend America and our liberties. Thank you for your sacrifices.

Now, please allow me to digress . . . the media who later "altered" the tape to show the President in a better light should be ashamed as well, but are we surprised? No. They are going along with the move to socialize America - zero tolerance for negative news is a dangerous road to follow. Think Venezuela, think North Korea, think China, think Iran, etc. Those who unconditionally support Obama simply follow the yellow brick road - you are not independent thinkers - he's the Pied Piper, so go right ahead and follow him right out of DC - can't wait for 2012 - if our nation survives that long.

For me, I'll form my own opinion based upon his disgraceful address on Fort Hood; his lack of concern for our troops in harms way; his disregard for the Constitution and those who have fallen in defense of it. The only "music" I hear him playing includes the lyrics of . . . Reverend Wright with a refrain from his marxist/socialist cronies to the tune of Czars who destroy America. WAKE UP!

America is a GREAT country - people flock here. If our nation fails, we have nowhere to run. What seas do we cross in a makeshift raft to seek out asylum, freedom, and opportunity? Those who have immigrated to America know best the fear we should feel -I ask you to please educate the misguided who do not appreciate what they have and do not know better.

In closing, to our troops and to the families of those who have died, I apologize for my digression, but I believe to write these words, honors the sacrifices you make and continue to make. God Bless America; God Bless those who have lost their lives at Fort Hood; God Bless all of our troops -you are in the hearts and minds of true Americans.

Anonymous,  November 7, 2009 at 9:01 PM

Obama is classless, and focused on his priorities and ego. The simple truth is the military and an islamic terrorist in the ranks, do not matter that much to el pres. He's far more concerned about mollifying the muslims than anything else.

I for one am great disturbed by the army PC culture that would allow a nut job like the major to remain in uniform.

Wake up folks, and yes, I am recently retired military. I know the damage the politically correct animals have done.

Anonymous,  November 7, 2009 at 9:43 PM

God bless the families of our fallen soldiers. I hope all of you liberals in The US are happy! You wanted change, now you have it! A self centered muslim for our President who has bankrupt this country and is steadily destroying it with his ideas and policies! We are in a holy war with the muslims and Americans need to wake up!

Anonymous,  November 11, 2009 at 10:05 PM

you people are pitiful.. fox news is pitiful.. the president was very somber in his comments.. and all of this " shout out " nonsense is just that ..
a shout-out is a greeting or acknowledgment of a person, group, or organization of significance. it is often done as a sign of respect..
