President Obama "Bows Deeply" to Japan's Emperor Akihito - Video

UPDATED 3:36 PM CT: Here now is video of President Obama's bow to the Emperor of Japan:

In Japan today, President Obama "bowed deeply" before Japanese Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko as he arrived for a visit at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo:

He later bowed deeply to Japanese Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko, upon arrival at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo for a private lunch before he headed to Singapore on the next leg of his Asian tour.

Beneath the signature charm and rhetoric, President Barack Obama's message was clear: the US fully intends to deepen dialogue with China and pursue greater cooperation with countries across Asia. . . . . MORE
I'm sure there will be people saying he did not bow to the Japanese Emperor, just as many denied he bowed to Saudi King Abdullah in April.

UPDATE 10:13 AM CT: Here is a YouTube just posted that shows Obama's bow to both King Abdullah (video) and the Japanese Emperor (photo). It asks what kind of spin the Left will put on this latest bow:

What is the protocol when dealing with the Japanese? Has other presidents done the same? This video should at least mention these points. Otherwise, it can be construed as right wing propaganda.

He was getting ready to kneel.

Let's face it: Obama's an idiot.

The left will probably say "at least he didn't kneel"

A view from Europe,  November 14, 2009 at 8:01 PM

What makes Obama different from bush?

Why is the media covering this?

Why do all Obama reports sound negative to start off with?

The USA Head of State is showing political negotiation skills that only Clinton ever mastered.

Obama your new and unproven but what your doing is very very intelligent, I think your the only American that seems to understand that the rest of the world sees America in a not so favourable light.

There is nothing disrespectful about shaking hands in Japan. And furthermore, a slight bow of the head would not be inappropriate.

A full bow like this is just not American. It's like Obama feels he has to completely embrace the culture of the other countries.

Obama really is weak. It's like he's begging for approval from the world. Geesh ... have some self-respect, you're the leader of the free world (at least America used to lead the free world).

View from Europe,

We want our President to focus on what is in the best interests of the United States - not what is in the best interests of his being acclaimed by the world. Your leader ought to be doing the same for your country.

If I have to explain why any person living in Europe ought to view America in a favorable light, there's no use wasting the words.

Very well put, Recovered Democrat. A handshake and a slight nod of the head is customary.

If he is going to kow-tow, he needs to show the proper form. This wasn't it.

He needs to go to Wikipedia and examine the picture. Now THAT'S a kowtow.

That said, WTF is he doing even bowing? We don't dip our flag and we don't bow to foreign potentates - not matter how nice and polite they actually may be.

Did he learn nothing from the last time? Remember how the White House tried to claim that Obama’s bow to King Abdullah was not a bow? What’s the White House going to say this time? That he was reaching down to pick up something on the floor again?

What a contrast between Cheney and General Douglas McArthur and this useless waste of electoral votes in the WH now. How sad. How pathetic. As a head of state it is inappropriate to bow to another head of state. It has nothing to do with humility. One can be gracious without being obsequious. The Chinese used to call such an action kowtowing. The Arabs refer to such status as Dhimma. Whatever the intent it displays sheer naivete, subtle stupidity and total disregard for the sensibilities of 98% of the American people. This man is not presidential material. George Bush is beginning to look better and better every day, and this coming from a gay Democrat.

BTW the New York Times itself over ten years ago eviscerated Bill Clinton for ALMOST bowing to Akihito as a severe misstep in protocol. Clinton had the presence of mind to catch himself before doing so. This clod has no such mental manouverability. Talk about a 3AM phone call. Hillary was right, and obviously the better pick.

Let me get this straight, your going to beat the new guy up over this, give bush a pass for bowing to a Saudi king, a pass for starting 2 wars and cutting taxes during those wars which helped ruin the economy, lying to the pubic about the wars, never putting the cost of the wars in the budget in order to hide the cost of the wars from the public, and he left a 1.2 trillion dollar deficit. Broke the army by constantly deploying it instead of starting a draft to get some of you chickenhawks involved. Never trust people that are so critical over something so minor when they give the predecessor a free ride, this is what happens when small minded people put politics before their country. Get of your butt, join up and go fight, stop calling those that don't agree liberals, you might find out that they're more like me, a combat vet that is tired of politicians, but more tired of lazy Americans that let things get out of hand during 8 years of not speaking up.

"and Bush left a 1.2 trillion dollar deficit."

You need to learn how to lie. Bush Deficit was never even 500 Billion$. Projected deficit is 1.4 Trillion$ under this administration. Go to Congressional Budget Office website and see for yourselves.
Lies, Lies, Lies will not help you in 2010.

Larry S November 15, 2009 at 2:09 PM

The projected deficit for 2009 when Bush left office in January 2009 (before Obama did anything) was already $1.2 trillion.

It was a very laudable humble attitude. It's incredible how you Americans have a huge trouble on act humbly. It would make NO difference for us Brazilians if our president do the same for one SIMPLE REASON: We are who we are and act humbly would not change who we are, but ennoble us. We are confident about who brazilians are and what Brazil is and you Americans don't have reasons to think different. Congratulations Mr. Obama. You seems to be a great man with REAL virtues and not only a so-called good president.
