New York Times Report Contradicts Obama Claim that His Daughter was "Diagnosed with Meningitis" - Video

Here is video showing that President Obama either misrepresented the facts in telling a personal story about his daughter Sasha having been "diagnosed with meningitis," or he simply did not know the facts. At any rate, the New York Times reported:

In her speech, Mrs. Obama also told the story of how her daughter Sasha would not stop crying when she was 4 months old. A doctor’s visit revealed she might have meningitis; she ultimately did not, but the illness produced a scare.
Thankfully, she did not have meningitis. But why would Obama say she was "diagnosed with meningitis."

This is not a huge deal, but for a President who has felt so free to chide opponents for not getting facts straight, it would behoove the President to be more careful himself.

Yes, agreed, President Obama should be much more careful about his facts before he speaks. Because, if he isn't, he runs the risk of claiming another country has WNDs and he'll go ahead and wrongfully invade that country!

Hmmmm Freudian slip, WNDs.

World Net Daily IS a Weapon of Mass Destruction, after all. :-)

Way to go to bring out an oldie but a goodie!

Nevermind that virtually all intelligence officials in Israel, Britain, France and the U.S. said he had WMDs, not to mention the fact the vast majority of Democrats voted to authorize the use of force. That's not quite the same as getting the facts of a known past event - in your own family - wrong.

Bushie acted on fakse intel that Cheney cherry-picked.

Bush lied, and people died, as they used to say.

Obama fudges, and rightwingnuts hold petty grudges.

Just doesn't have the same ring, does it?

You have no basis to say Bush did anything other than act on the intelligence he had to do what he believed best for America. That's what he did. That's why the Congress gave authority for the use of force in Iraq.

I'm very disappointed in you, Brian. Have you not read any of the books that document how Cheney (if not Bush) used and mis-used intel to gin up a case against Iraq? How the stuff they fed Colin Powell to feed to the world at the U.N. was a collection of generalizations, half-truths, and out-and-out fabrications?

Dang, guy, take off the rose-colored Bush glasses every now and then. You might see a more realistic view of America and fewer Commies lurking in the current administration!

Here, Brian, I did a quick Google to find something to help you out:

"Sept. 6, 2007 | On Sept. 18, 2002, CIA director George Tenet briefed President Bush in the Oval Office on top-secret intelligence that Saddam Hussein did not have weapons of mass destruction, according to two former senior CIA officers. Bush dismissed as worthless this information from the Iraqi foreign minister, a member of Saddam's inner circle, although it turned out to be accurate in every detail. Tenet never brought it up again.

Nor was the intelligence included in the National Intelligence Estimate of October 2002, which stated categorically that Iraq possessed WMD. No one in Congress was aware of the secret intelligence that Saddam had no WMD as the House of Representatives and the Senate voted, a week after the submission of the NIE, on the Authorization for Use of Military Force in Iraq. The information, moreover, was not circulated within the CIA among those agents involved in operations to prove whether Saddam had WMD."

There's plenty more where that came from, if you care to look for it at all.

You are a Bush-hater and nothing will change your mind. I am grateful to him for his service and for keeping America safe. We might as well leave it at that.

Diogenes September 19, 2009 at 10:21 PM

Slight correction: I'm hugely ticked at Bush -- and I HATE Dick Cheney -- for destroying so many of the things that this country used to stand for in the world, all in the name of "security".

As for keeping America safe, they did a great job of that.... from September 12, 2001 on. But, sorry, they don't get a complete "pass" on September 11, not when they chose to completely ignore certain warnings prior to 9-11, and certainly not when they took their eye off the ball by going after Iraq when al-Qaeda was in Afghanistan.
