UN Ambassador Rice Hits John Bolton for Saying U.S. Coming "Perilously Close to Negotiating with Terrorists" - Video 8/9/09

Here is video of U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations criticizing for UN Ambassador John Bolton for saying that the United States came "perilously close to negotiating with terrorists" in the trip to North Korea by former President Bill Clinton to free two American journalists held there. Clinton successfully brought the two women home last week.

Rice was very defensive about the issue, saying repeatedly that Clinton's trip was "a private humanitarian mission" by President Clinton. She also said there were "no negotiations that went on."

Yet, at the end of last week, Robert Gibbs and others were talking about how good a week it was for President Obama, even citing the return of the journalists, as though it was an accomplishment of the Obama Administration.

It was wonderful to see the two women return home to their families, knowing they are now safe from the fate they faced in a North Korea Prison Camp at hard labor. But Bolton should not be dismissed in his concern about the possible long-term impact on American Foreign Policy if the U.S. is perceived by dictators, terrorists, and thugs as being willing to bargain for kidnapped or captured Americans. Bolton should have probably waited a while to raise the question, rather than doing it the day of their release, but the question is a valid one to ponder.

2012 Possible GOP Contenders: Power Rankings

Here is a list of possible GOP Contenders for the 2012 Republican Nomination for President. They are listed in “Power Ranked” order based on our subjective analysis of how strong the candidates would be should they decide to seek the nomination. The rankings are NOT based on how strong the candidates would be in winning in a General Election against President Obama. The rankings will be adjusted day to day as events and information warrant. Rankings do not indicate an endorsement or preference for a particular candidate. Candidates included are those who have either indicated they may run, or individuals for which there is great speculation they will run.
