Walter Cronkite Covers First Inauguration of President Ronald Reagan - Video 1/20/1981

With the death of Walter Cronkite yesterday, July 17, 2009, at the age of 92, there have been a lot of places posting short clips of Cronkite in action. Here is video in eight parts of Walter Cronkite covering his last major event for CBS News as Anchor - President Ronald Reagan's First Inauguration on January 20, 1981. The video contains extensive portions of his coverage that day, and at the same time shows a great deal of President Reagan, including his taking the Oath of Office and his entire Inaugural Address.

There was high drama that day. Not only was Reagan inaugurated America's 40th President, but the American hostages held for 444 days in Iran were released from captivity. It was the end of President Jimmy Carter's disastrous administration, and the dawn of "Morning in America" that was to come during the eight years of President Reagan's leadership.
