It should be easy enough to check Dr King's voter registration records from the 1950's and 60's.

The voting registration cards are not a true indication. It's easy enough to register with one party but since the vote is secret there is no telling whom he actually voted for. Your better off looking at his beliefs and comparing them with the parties at the time to see which it aligns with more often.

conservatives (republicans) believe in individual rights; Democrats in group rights (race, sex, etc.). MLK believed that people should be judged on the content of the character, not the color of their skin. I have for a long time believed - "known" - that MLK was a conservative. I have never seen anything to the contrary.

Which party was responsible for passing the Voting Rights Act?

It sure as heck wasn't the solid South Democratic Dixiecrats - the act was passed only through the overwhelming support of Republicans.

Republicans also believe in personal responsibiity and accountabiity - two tenets of Dr. King's philosophy.
