Gen. James Jones to be Obama Pick for National Security Adviser

President-elect Barack Obama continues to show signs he may govern more from the center than the far-left as many of his supporters would prefer. Word has it that he just may name Retired Gen. James Jones as his National Security Adviser, a move that Jim Geraghty says will please foreign policy hawks more than doves:

A pretty good sign for hawks, a pretty bad sign for doves — word is that Retired Marine Gen. James Jones, who made an appearance with John McCain during the campaign, appears to be Obama's pick for National Security Adviser. It was never clear about whether the appearance represented an actual or merely de facto endorsement, it did quash buzz that Jones was a potential running mate for Obama.

It's not like one expected Bernardine Dohrn, as the guys at Powerline joke, but there was possibility of Anthony Lake reprising the role he played from 1993 to 1997 — the glory years of the Somalia withdrawal, the invasion of Haiti, the Rwandan Genocide, the beginning of unchecked Serbian aggression in the Balkans, the shooting spree outside CIA headquarters, the first World Trade Center bombing, cuts in the intelligence budget, and the Khobar Towers bombing.
